Social Entrepreneurs Ireland aims to ignite social change by identifying, investing in and supporting Irish social entrepreneurs ? individuals who are prepared to take risks by applying their energy, drive, ambition and innovation to tackle some of Ireland?s most entrenched social problems. InterACT TouchTable - the next big leap in telepresence?

I've linked to a short video demo of Teliris' new InterACT TouchTable before but this 8 minute long version gives a much better idea of what the technology can do. And boy does it look impressive. According to Teliris CEO Marc Trachtenberg it's the 'next big leap' in telpresence - a claim that's difficult to dispute.

Cisco launches TelePresence suites - mentions family use!

On Wednesday Cisco announced the first Cisco TelePresence rooms available for public use.  These Cisco TelePresence rooms are available on a pay-per-use model to businesses and organizations of all sizes but what I find most intriguing in the media material is the reference to family use! Specifically, in the benefits section is listed - "Families  can celebrate with relatives who cannot travel for physical or financial reasons."

This is a strong sign that Cisco are intent on driving Telepresence use into the home. Pricing will have to come way down of course but it's a promising first step.

Public Cisco TelePresence rooms are available immediately at the Cisco TelePresence Suites in California, Boston, London, and major cities throughout India. I wonder how long before they arrive in Ireland. Regus, are you listening?

Asus Eee Top touchscreen all-in-one PC for video calling?

And Sascha Pallenberg from Eee PC News.de has posted a demo video of the Asus Eee Top in action. With a much larger touchscreen than the AiGuru SV1 I think this could be a more suitable video calling terminal for many situations, though certainly more expensive.

TandbergTelepresence T3 takes aim at Cisco

Norweigan Video Conferencing company Tandberg today fired a shot across the bow of Cisco when unveiling the new immersive Telepresence T3 system - a telepresence server and package of TANDBERG-certified services that provide a complete telepresence experience.

The T3 development team, which included a social anthropologist, collaborated with customer groups to evaluate preferred designs, colors and room set-ups to optimize the user experience. With 'Nordic sky' blue walls, specialized room lighting, wood, aluminum and glass finishing Tandberg is certainly aiming for an exclusive finish.

Together with large full HD screens and PrecisionHD 1080p cameras the full-duplex spatial audio and super wideband stereo sound aim to bring as much realism as possible. See what you think in the video below
